Housatonic and Shetucket Rivers

Visit the Housatonic River project and enjoy riverside and lakeside recreation. Take a walk on one of the many interpretive trails or picnic by the water’s edge. In the winter Shepaug station operates an eagle viewing facility. Various dams on the river create three popular lakes: Lake Candlewood, Lake Lillinonah and Lake Zoar.

Bulls Bridge Recreation

Although the view from the observation deck on Bulls Bridge sland is great year around, it is most stunning during foliage season. Park and walk through the covered bridge that spans the Housatonic River, then head for the observation deck. Don’t forget your camera. Click here for the map.


Rocky River Recreation

Candlewood Lake is a focal point of summer recreation in Connecticut. As the largest lake in Connecticut, it provides fresh-water recreation opportunities for thousands of people each summer. The Dikes Point Interpretive Trail on the north end of the lake provides great views of the lake and information about the changed landscape.


Shepaug Station Recreation

The 1/2 mile Shepaug Interpretive Trail on the shore of Lake Lillinonah describes the diverse roles trees play from shade, to wood products, to food for both people and wildlife. During the winter months stop in and visit the popular Bald Eagle Observatory. Open water and mild weather create a favorite wintering area of the national bird. Stevenson Station Recreation

Take a break from your daily activities and enjoy lunch at the Stevenson Station Picnic Area.Spectacular water watching during high-river flow events.


Scotland Hydroelectric Recreation (FERC Hydro Project No. 2662)

Enjoy fishing or relaxing on the shores of the Shetucket River near our Scotland Hydroelectric Station.
